The soundtrack to Martin Scorsese's '70s mob epic Casino is as over-sized as the movie. Assembled by Robbie Robertson, the album runs the gamut from schmaltzy pop to blues and rock & roll, featuring a great assortment of classic tracks and performers.

Overview
The 1970s were volatile times on the Las Vegas Strip. Full of gamblers and celebrity royalty, the Mob sees Las Vegas as a perfect opportunity to spread their reach. Sending in Ace Rothstein, this intelligent gambler becomes the boss at the Tangiers hotel. Skimming the hotel's profits for the Mob, Rothstein has a perfectly legitimate business in the middle of the desert. The Mob decides to send out Nicky Santoro, a small, but dangerous man, to protect Rothstein and all the hotel's assets. With Vegas flair, Rothstein falls in love with a hustler, named Ginger. Although she confesses that she has no love for Ace, they marry anyway and build a family. But trouble is on the way as friends become foes and the Vegas Strip slowly declines into a crumbling empire without a true king.

  • Martin Scorsese's fascinating new film 'Casino' knows a lot about the Mafia's relationship with Las Vegas. It's based on a book by Nicholas Pileggi, who had full access to a man who once ran four casinos for the mob, and whose true story inspires the movie's plot. Like 'The Godfather,' it makes us feel like eavesdroppers in a secret place. The movie opens with a car bombing,.
